Ikebana Experience

– A Quiet Encounter with Japanese Aesthetics

This Ikebana Experience is created for those who seek more than sightseeing,
and who wish to encounter Japanese culture in a calm, meaningful way.

Rather than offering a busy activity or a surface-level introduction,
this experience invites you into a moment of stillness —
to meet flowers, space, and the Japanese sense of nature with care and attention.

Rooted in the philosophy of the Saga Goryu School of Ikebana,
you will learn to see each plant not as material to be shaped,
but as a living presence whose natural form is respected and gently revealed.

There is no idea of “perfect” in this practice.
Each arrangement becomes a reflection of the moment, the season, and the person who creates it.

What Makes This Experience Different

This is not a tourist activity designed to be rushed through.
It is a cultural moment, offered in a quiet space and in small groups,
so that each participant can work with flowers at their own pace.

Here, you do not simply observe Japanese culture.
You step into it — slowly, attentively, and personally.

Two Ways to Experience Ikebana

Essential Course
– The Foundation of Ikebana

Duration: 2 hours
Fee: ¥10,000

The Essential Course is ideal for those who wish to experience the foundation of ikebana in a calm, focused environment.
No prior experience is required.

This course offers a gentle introduction to the art of Japanese flower arrangement, guided step by step by an instructor of the Saga Goryu School. Rather than aiming for perfection, you will be invited to observe each movement and create your own seasonal arrangement with care and attention.

Through the flowers, you will encounter the basic principles of ikebana and the Japanese way of seeing nature — quietly, thoughtfully, and with respect for each plant’s natural form.

If you wish, you may take the flowers you arranged with you.
(The vase and the flower holders are provided for use within the classroom only. Flowers will be carefully wrapped for travel.)

This course is perfect for those who are new to ikebana, or for anyone seeking a moment of stillness and focused creation in Kyoto.

Cultural Immersion Course

– A Quiet Encounter with Japanese Aesthetics

Duration: 3 hours
Fee: ¥15,000

For those who seek more than sightseeing,
and wish to experience Japanese culture in a quiet, meaningful way.

The Cultural Immersion Course is not a tourist activity and not simply an ikebana lesson.
It is a cultural moment — a gentle immersion into the Japanese sense of nature, aesthetics, and time.

Through seasonal flowers, a serene space, and the closing experience of matcha and traditional Japanese sweets, you will step into the rhythm of Japanese culture not as a visitor, but as a participant. This is not a formal tea ceremony, but a quiet moment to enjoy the lingering atmosphere created through flowers. This course is designed for those who wish to feel the depth of Japanese culture rather than merely observe it.

This course is especially suited for those who feel that ordinary sightseeing is not enough, and who wish to experience Japan in a more contemplative, authentic way.

Which course should I choose?
  • Essential Course
    A gentle introduction to ikebana.
Ideal for first-time participants who wish to learn the basics and create their own arrangement in a calm setting.

  • Cultural Immersion Course
    A deeper cultural experience.
Designed for those who seek more than sightseeing and wish to immerse themselves quietly in Japanese aesthetics through flowers, space, and tea.

A Moment to Take With You

– The Experience Continues

If you wish, you may take the flowers you arranged with you after the session.
While the vase and holders are provided for use in the venue,
your flowers can be carefully wrapped and prepared for you to carry.

For both courses,
you will also receive several photographs a few days after your visit —
a quiet reminder of your time, the space, and the moment you spent with the flowers.

This experience does not end when the session is over.
It continues in what you carry with you, and in what gently remains.
